Four dates carved into an unfinished mountain — scaffolding still up, ladders against the rock, the work plainly not done. Where the faces would be, there are none. Golf isn't finished, and nobody's likeness is for sale.
1979 — Seve Ballesteros wins The Open at Royal Lytham, driving into a car park on the 16th and making birdie anyway. Youngest Open champion of the twentieth century.
1980 — Seve wins the Masters at twenty-three. The first European ever to wear the jacket, and the youngest man to win it at the time.
1987 — Muirfield Village, Ohio. Europe wins in America for the first time, 15–13, ending a home streak that ran back to 1927. Seve holes the winning putt. Olazábal dances on the green.
2012 — Medinah. Olazábal captains Europe back from 10–6 down on American soil, sixteen months after Seve's death.
